A scout from Nottingham Forest joined staff members from several Premier League clubs at the Ligue 1 clash between Lens and Lille at the weekend.
Yazid Mansouri was present on behalf of the Reds as the away side took a step closer to the Ligue 1 title with a 3-0 win.
Burak Yilmaz scored twice and Jonathan David also netted as Lens were blown away on home soil.
Scouts from Leeds United were also present, with representatives from Everton, Leicester, PSG, Torino and others also in place.
It’s certainly interesting to see Forest send a scout to such an important fixture in the French top-flight.
Interestingly Lens are also in the top six of the division and it might seem a bridge too far for the Reds to be targeting such clubs for recruits.
Forest’s knack of targeting foreign imports in mixed seasons has come in for some criticism given the limited success.
This spot does seem to showcase that the Reds will be leaving no stone unturned in the quest to sign new players.
Forest will hope for a more positive campaign during 2021/22. Finishing 17th simply won’t do for Hughton next season and he’ll look to reshape his squad.
Talks will start to take place among supporters over who Forest might have been looking at during Friday’s game.
Lots of players will be linked between now and the first ball being kicked of the new campaign.
Some will be household names when it comes to English football, whilst others will naturally emerge from further afield.
Whoever comes into the club needs to be willing to knuckle down and focus on reviving the club’s flailing fortunes.
It’ll now be interesting to see whether anyone impressed the Reds scout during Lille’s trip to Lens.
