August is now upon us and in just six days time Nottingham Forest will get their 2020/21 campaign underway. The Reds travel to Coventry City and it looks like a big campaign for lots of players.
Forest have added just one new face to their squad. Ethan Horvath is the only new arrival, with the American custodian arriving on a free transfer.
Ins and outs are likely to take place before the end of August transfer deadline, and here we look at some of the deals that could take place with a few weeks of the window remaining.
Forest youngsters to leave on loan
Jayden Richardson and Will Swan have featured during the pre-season campaign. It has to be said that their chances of regular football do perhaps look slim for the 2021/22 campaign.
With that in mind, Hughton might look to loan both players out and there should be no shortage of potential suitors.
Both youngsters could benefit from regular football and loaning them out seems to make perfect sense.
Jordan Gabriel to Blackpool
It has been reported that both Blackpool and Sunderland are keen on signing the £700,000-rated defender.
The right-back is likely to be allowed to leave, should Hughton manage to land himself a new defender.
Forest let Gabriel join Blackpool last season and he shone as the club secured promotion to the Championship.
Neil Critchley is a big fan of his and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him return to the City Ground to re-sign the player.
Josh Doig arrival
The youngster looks set to sign for a Premier League club this week and could then be sent on loan to Forest.
Doig would represent a decent signing. The teenager has been in fine form for Hibernian and could now head south of the border.
Forest have turned their attentions to the Scottish performer after being thwarted in their attempts to sign Derby ace Lee Buchanan.
One way or another, a defender looks set to arrive and full-back is a particular cause for concern going into the new campaign.
Flemming checks in
It has been claimed that Fortuna Sittard want £1.5 million in order to land the highly-rated attacking midfielder Flemming.
The 23-year-old scored 15 times and claimed seven assists during 2020/21 and was one of Eredivisie’s top performers.
Forest could do with another creative spark and adding Flemming would make lots of sense.
This looks like a deal that could rumble on until the end of the window, but he is admired by people behind the scenes at Forest.
James Garner back to Forest
The Manchester United youngster should have been one of Forest’s top targets this summer and he is fancied by the Reds boss.
Sheffield United, it seems, are now keen on the youngster and Forest might have to act quickly in order to complete another loan deal.
Garner was a revelation for the Reds last season, scoring four goals in 20 appearances.
He displayed a tremendous passing radar and his box to box presence in midfield was a joy to behold.
Forest getting him back could be a game-changing move for the Reds.
