Nuno Da Costa is set to end his Nottingham Forest nightmare. The 30-year-old is close to signing for Ligue 2 outfit Caen on a season-long loan, according to Get Football News France.
The Cape Verde international hasn’t really made an impact at the City Ground. He checked in for £1.8 million from Strasbourg in January 2020 and has failed to shine.
Da Costa has failed to find the net during 14 appearances in the Garibaldi. He’s proved a bizarre signing and spent last season on loan with Royal Excel Mouscron.
There he scored six goals in 25 games, although all of his strikes came in the first couple of months of the 2020/21 campaign. Now, he will embark on a spell in the French second tier with Caen.
Da Costa departing will free up another place in the squad. The man with three caps for his country has played just 40 minutes this season and that came during a League Cup game against Bradford.
Offloading the striker will please Forest supporters. He’s never really showcased the required quality to cut it in the Championship and he’ll go down as a flop for his time at the City Ground.
Caen are sixth in the French second tier and Da Costa does have experience of playing at such a level with Strasbourg.
Da Costa exit should delight Forest fans
This has been a strange signing from the off. Da Costa was added when Sabri Lamouchi desperately needed a couple of players to turn his play-off hopefuls into automatic promotion contenders.
From his early appearances, he looked well short of the required quality. He also suffered with injuries when he first checked in at the club.
This move looks like a good one for all parties. The challenge for Forest now is to add a replacement prior to the window slamming shut this evening.
