Nottingham Forest are thought to have spoken to the representatives of Derby County wonderkid Malcolm Ebiowei.
According to The Secret Scout with over 48,000 followers on Twitter, the Reds are keen to sign the winger.
Forest will be some way down the queue though. It has been claimed that Manchester United and Crystal Palace are leading the way.
Ebiowei looks almost certain to leave Pride Park. Derby’s financial predicament shows no sign of easing and several players will leave.
Monaco, Tottenham and Vitesse are also thought to be in the mix and an announcement on his future could take place soon.
At 18, Ebiowei stepped up to play first-team football during 2021/22 and he received praise from Wayne Rooney.
Following a 1-1 draw with Coventry, the Rams boss told the Derby Telegraph: “I thought he was excellent all game, the best player on the pitch.
“His attitude is incredible and he’s an exciting young player. He’s got an enormous amount of ability.”
Ebiowei was called upon amid an injury crisis last season, with Derby unable to add any players to their squad.
He made 16 appearances in the Championship, scoring once and registering two assists featuring largely on the right-wing.
Ebiowei has come through the ranks at Derby and was previously on the books of Arsenal and West Ham.
Forest will certainly go in search of new players this summer but perhaps Ebiowei isn’t quite ready for Premier League football.
He could become a star of the future though and it’s nice to see them shopping in such a market.
Forest have spoken to Ebiowei and he’d be a quality addition
Although the priority will be on the here and now, it’s important that Forest don’t disregard the future.
Ebiowei might see the pathway as being a bit clearer at the City Ground than it would be at Manchester United and that could play into his decision-making.
The youngster looks like a class act. He produced the goods at Championship level last season and showcased blistering pace.
It would be interesting to see what plan Forest had for him if they did sign him.
A loan move could be on the cards, or he could even form part of next season’s squad with nine substitutes made available in the Premier League.
Rumour rating: 7/10 – this would be a wonderful signing, not least because it further annoys the frustrated Rams fan base.
That said, the source is perhaps somewhat intriguing. They do have lots of followers but they’re hardly experts when it comes to the East Midlands.
Ebiwoei would be a decent signing for Forest though and he’d definitely be capable of making a City Ground impact in the future.
