Kyriakos Dourekas has heaped praise on former Nottingham Forest attacker Philip Zinckernagel after the Dane signed a permanent contract with Olympiacos.
The 27-year-old was overlooked by Forest as they bid to assemble a side that can compete in the Premier League during 2022/23.
Forest, led by Steve Cooper, are showing ambition in the transfer market. Several stellar recruits are set to sign prior to the big kick-off at Newcastle in August.
Dourekas is the club’s respected Director of Football. He has been instrumental for the Reds in recent transfer windows; particularly last January when Keinan Davis, Sam Surridge and Steve Cook were all added.
Zinckernagel signed for Forest during the transfer window of last summer. He was brilliant throughout the campaign, scoring seven goals and registering 10 assists.
The Dane was a trusted member of Cooper’s promotion-winning. Early reports after the play-off final suggested that Forest might try and keep him.
Now, he’s gone off to Olympiacos. Given his age, the chance to play Champions League football wasn’t to be sniffed at and for £3 million, the Greek champions have themselves a steal.
Dourekas is calm and composed, with expertise in negotiating deals. Forest will hope he can strike gold again this summer after already producing several magic moments during his time on Trentside.
Dourekas lauds Zinckernagel after Forest enjoy ‘fantastic season’
The Director of Football is a trusted lieutenant of Evangelos Marinakis. The owner hit the jackpot last season and Dourekas along with Dane Murphy and Mitiadis Marinakis have really hit the jackpot.
Now, the hard work begins for Forest – and for Dourekas. Clubs will know that the Reds have a new bounty of cash to spend and deals will naturally be harder to negotiate.
The Forest figure is worth his weight in gold though. He knows what it takes to get things over the line and his presence in the boardroom over the next few weeks will be massive.
Following Zinckernagel’s transfer to Olympiacos, Dourekas posted a classy farewell to Instagram. The Forest figure quite possibly counts the ex-Watford man as one of his best recruits during his time at the club.
