Nottingham Forest are one of several Premier League clubs hoping to sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, Fabrizio Romano has claimed. The centre-back could depart the Blues this summer, with Leicester, Crystal Palace and Brighton all thought to be keen.

One of Colwill’s final acts last season helped the Reds reach the top flight. He diverted James Garner’s cross into the net during Forest’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield in the Championship play-off final back in May.

The 19-year-old made 32 appearances for the Terriers last season. He scored twice and also claimed an assist, with Carlos Corberan’s team defying the odds to reach the end-of-season play-offs.

Colwill doesn’t have any senior experience to his name at Chelsea. He’s played regularly for the under-23s and under-18s but he could now be set to leave Stamford Bridge during the summer transfer window.

The teenager is likely to be allowed to leave on a permanent deal. At this stage, however, Romano claims that the Blues haven’t made a final decision on their talented youngster.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Forest are looking at Colwill. He looks set for a bright future and would bolster the club’s defensive ranks ahead of what looks set to be a very exciting campaign.

The Reds are still hoping to sign Moussa Niakhate from Mainz. Talks have stalled though and clearly, Forest are keeping tabs on other left-sided defenders too.

Lewis O’Brien is a big fan of Colwill. During his time playing with the defender, he called him ‘unbelievable’ and ‘fantastic’ during an interview with Yorkshire Live.

Forest eye move for Colwill and he could be a quality addition

These are the sort of links that will get the Reds fan base excited. The Chelsea youngster possesses real quality and it’s no surprise that he’s not short of suitors.

Colwill might fancy a move to Forest. At the City Ground, he would play frequently and Steve Cooper is something of a master when it comes to getting the best out of younger players.

The teenager is quick, strong and boasts amazing skills in the air. He’s also capable of playing in a system where the order of the day is to play out from the back.

Rumour rating: 9/10 – There really is a lot to like about this deal. Colwill is one of the country’s most talented young defenders and he’s got the attributes to go to the top.

Colwill would fit the mantra of what Forest look for in a signing down to the ground. Under Cooper’s influence and could kick on and become one of the best defenders in the country.

This is a deal that Forest really have to get cracking with!
