Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Real Betis star Alex Moreno. According to Estadio Deportivo, the player is viewed by Forest as someone who would bolster their attacking ranks.

That will perhaps come as a surprise. Last season, Moreno spent the entire campaign featuring as a left-sided wingback for Betis and he excelled in that area.

Forest could find themselves well-stocked in that position though. Harry Toffolo is set to sign and Omar Richards has already joined from Bayern Munich this summer.

The signing of Huddersfield man Toffolo doesn’t look to be ending the interest in Moreno, however. He is viewed by Forest as someone who can bolster the attacking ranks instead.

The Reds are short of attacking quality. Moreno is a player that loves the attacking side of the game and last season he scored five times from his position as a wing-back.

Moreno is open to signing for Forest. He won’t come cheap though, with Betis holding out for £17 million from any club that wishes to secure his services.

The player is well travelled when it comes to playing in Spain. As well as Betis, he’s played for Rayo Vallecano, Elche and RCD Mallorca.

Forest have opened talks over Moreno over him coming to the City Ground. Talks are in the early stages though and nothing is advanced at this stage.

This will come as interesting news to Reds supporters, with many feeling that another left-sided wing-back wasn’t required.

Moreno’s versatility could prove very useful. If anything were to happen to Richards or Toffolo perhaps he would be seen as someone who can fill in.

In the long-term, however, Forest view him as a player that could come in and compete for a place in the final third.

Forest do need options in those areas and having some left-footed quality in the team would certainly help.

Moreno wouldn’t be overly expensive. Given the club’s summer spending already, £17 million is perhaps a drop in the ocean.
