Ally McCoist has jumped to the defence of Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson live on air. The England stopper ruffled some feathers last night following some less than savoury comments on the situation at Manchester United.

Forest landed Henderson last month. He will become the team’s first-choice goalkeeper for 2022/23 as he bids to win back a place in the England setup ahead of the World Cup which will take place in Qatar later this year.

Henderson claimed yesterday that he was told false promises at United. He also claimed during an interview that not playing any football last season was criminal and left him fuming about the whole situation.

Several pundits have claimed Henderson was out of order. Not McCoist though; with the TalkSPORT pundit claiming that he doesn’t have a problem with the comments that the Forest man came out with.

He said live on air: “Having listened to what he said, I don’t really have a problem with it. I don’t have a problem with it at all.

“Clearly the lad just wants to play; that’s what he said, he just wants to play. There is something refreshing about that. Some players would take their money and just not perform every week.

“He’s obviously someone who’s not like that at all.”

McCoist jumps to defence of Henderson and Forest man now has a point to prove

The Manchester United stopper has got his frustrations away from his chest. Now, the ball is in his court to ensure that he proves a sizeable point to his employers during his season-long loan stint at the City Ground.

Forest have got themselves a gem of a goalkeeper in Henderson. He has played 29 times for Manchester United and also has an England cap to his name.

The 25-year-old clearly just wants to play. In an era where the paying public demand that players don’t become robots, Henderson has spoken from the heart here.

Now, he has nowhere to hide though. Forest have given him a brilliant opportunity and it’s important that he grasps it with both hands.
