Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson has launched a stinging attack on parent club Manchester United. The 25-year-old has been speaking on Premier League launch day and his interview has been quoted by the Daily Mail.

In an era where media contrived rubbish is rife among professional players, Henderson has gone against the grain. He’s gone in two-footed on United; claiming he’s yet to speak to Erik ten Hag and nor did he want to before joining Forest.

The Reds pulled off a coup to land Henderson back in July. He turned down several loan moves away from Old Trafford last summer after being forced to pull out of England’s squad for the European Championships.

Henderson has claimed that he turned those moves down to play at United. He was expected to oust David De Gea as the club’s number one goalkeeper; although that never transpired and he played second fiddle during a drab campaign.

He told the Daily Mail: “The conversation I had, coming out of the Euros squad was that you’re coming back here to be the No1 goalkeeper. I got Covid and then unfortunately no one followed through with anything they told me.

“It’s frustrating. I turned down so many good loan moves last summer for that reason and they wouldn’t let me go. To sit there and waste 12 months is criminal really at my age. I was fuming, to be honest with you.”

Stinging United attack launched by Henderson and he’ll be desperate to prove a point

Henderson certainly isn’t afraid to say things how they are. This is a media team’s worst nightmare but clearly, the goalkeeper wanted to get some things off of his chest and out in the open regarding the United situation.

It’s quite nice that Henderson wants to be at Forest. Plenty have presumed that like Jesse Lingard he’s only at Forest to pick up a rather sizeable pay cheque for a single season as opposed to buying into the project.

Now Henderson has to deliver though. He’s made these comments and naturally, some people at United will be left feeling rather embarrassed to hear that the man with one England cap has essentially called them out.

The Reds have pulled off a coup to sign Henderson. He will get plenty of game time at the City Ground and it’s now up to the former Sheffield United loanee to make United look foolish over his lack of game time last season.
