Nottingham Forest have made an enquiry about Villarreal defender Pervis Estupinan, according to the Daily Mail. The Reds were handed a setback yesterday when Alex Moreno opted not to join Forest and stay at Real Betis.
Now, it’s back to the drawing board for the Premier League outfit. Another left-sided wing-back has been identified, with Omar Richards likely to be out until after the World Cup.
Estupinan signed for Villarreal from Watford in 2020. He signed a seven-year contract with the La Liga outfit and as a result, it’s unlikely that he will come cheap this summer.
The man with 26 caps for Ecuador was integral for Villarreal last season. He played 40 times and was a key part of the team as they reached the semi-final of the Champions League.
Estupinan failed to make an appearance during his time at Watford. He subsequently moved to Villarreal to play some games and hasn’t looked back.
The 24-year-old has a blistering turn of pace, loves to get forward and would represent an exciting addition to the Forest ranks.
Earlier this summer, Tottenham were said to be keen. According to El Periodico Mediterraneo, Antonio Conte had told the board to bring him to North London.
Forest are keen to add another left-sided wing-back to their ranks. Harry Toffolo played at Newcastle on Saturday but some competition for that position is required.
Enquiry made by Forest for Estupinan
This one would be a fantastic deal but there is some scepticism about the reliability of the report. Forest might have made an enquiry but that doesn’t mean he’s available for transfer.
Estupinan was tied to a seven-year contract in 2020/ They also paid £15 million for his services and that likely means they will want a sizeable fee for the £37,000-a-week player.
However, if a deal can be struck then this would be a quality signing. Estupinan is at the age where he should still improve and he’s got the top-level experience that Forest crave.
Rumour rating: 5/10 – If we felt this was realistic we’d bump it up to a 9/10 comfortably.
Sadly, however, we just don’t feel that this will be well received by Villarreal given how highly they rate him.
We’d love to think we could pull it off but we have our reservations based on the Daily Mail and their record with getting Forest news badly wrong this summer.
