Former West Ham and England goalkeeper David James has raved about Nottingham Forest stopper Dean Henderson on Sky Sports News.

The Reds performer joined the City Ground on a season-long loan from Manchester United earlier this summer.

Henderson has started both of Forest’s games in the Premier League and kept a clean sheet against West Ham on Sunday.

He was open about his upset at how he was treated at Manchester United and now he has a point to prove to them.

It’s a case of so far, so good from Henderson’s perspective and against the Hammers he saved a Declan Rice penalty.

England will be on the player’s mind and the former Three Lions stopper believes that he will be firmly in Gareth Southgate’s plans.

James told Sky Sports News earlier today: “The crucial thing was the move. I think last season there was a chance for him to potentially start for Manchester United but I think Covid put a stop to that.

“I think what he’s done in these opening couple of games, the save from Soucek against West Ham was spectacular.

“The penalty save was well held, he’s gone the right way and everything was very nicely done.

“He just looks like he’s enjoying playing football. When you have a goalkeeper like him enjoying his football it’s great to see.”

James raved about Henderson after latest performance and clearly he fancies him as an England stopper

James knows what it takes to make the grade at international level. He was often prone to error but ultimately he was a very steady goalkeeper as he matured in his career.

The former Hammers and Manchester City player made 53 appearances for England and Henderson will hope to quickly get himself back in the squad.

Forest already look as though they’ve made a really good signing with the Manchester United stopper.

He’s showcased his class in the first two games of the season and only two pieces of brilliance robbed him of a clean sheet against Newcastle.

The Reds will hope he can continue shining. As a newly-promoted team, he’s likely to be busy in some games this season but that won’t faze him.

Forest have used the loan market really well over the last 12 months and Henderson might just be the best of the bunch.
