Nottingham Forest were linked with Alvaro Odriozola yesterday and the Reds might have been handed a transfer boost today.

The Real Madrid player hasn’t trained with Los Blancos today, with Carlo Ancelotti keen to sell his defender.

Odriozola typically operates as a right-sided wing-back and he transferred to Madrid from Real Sociedad in 2018.

He was initially sent on loan to Bayern Munich but in Germany, he played just five times for the champions.

He’s also failed to hold down a regular place in the Madrid team, featuring just 43 times for the club.

During his time at the Bernabeu, he’s scored three goals and laid on a further 10 in the way of assists.

The fact that Odriozola is on Forest’s radar is certainly an exciting link, although the fact he’s a right-back is perhaps strange.

Steve Cooper has signed Neco Williams from Liverpool and he’s enjoyed two good performances so far.

The Reds have also signed Giulian Biancone as competition for the defensive ranks, although he’s more suited to playing centre-back.

Odriozola spent last season on loan with Fiorentina in Italy and there he made 27 appearances for the club.

Now, his future looks to lie away from Real Madrid, with Ancelotti likely to let him leave permanently this time.

This would be an intriguing signing but one that perhaps wouldn’t be easy to get over the line.

He earns £105,000-a-week and that isn’t a wage that Forest will be willing to go to before the window closes.

Forest have already added several new faces this summer and have spent over £100 million on new recruits.

Odriozola would provide some decent competition to the squad but they’ll probably have to persuade him to sign.

Adding a player from Real Madrid would be quite something for Forest at this stage of the transfer window.

Williams’ first couple of outings shouldn’t be discounted though and he would have to work for a place at the City Ground.
