Nottingham Forest were linked with a move for Crystal Palace star Luka Milivojevic during the summer. Shortly after winning promotion, his name cropped up as a potential target for the Reds.

It would appear that Evangelos Marinakis is a huge fan. According to Tutto Mercato Web, the player is set to sign for Olympiacos before the transfer window closes in Greece tonight.

The central midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Patrick Vieira. The Frenchman would have liked to have offloaded him during the summer but a move never transpired.

Milivojevic signed for Palace from Olympiacos back in 2017. He’s been a useful player for the Eagles over the last five years and will leave having made 182 appearances for the club.

The central midfielder is out of contract next summer. As a result, the Greek champions are set to claim a pretty decent bargain and sign Milivojevic in the coming hours.

Forest were linked early on during the transfer window. Although he has Premier League experience and 39 caps for Serbia it did perhaps seem a little bit of a bizarre link.

Olympiacos have made some really useful additions to their squad this summer. Josh Bowler and Hwang Ui-jo are actually two players added to the Greek outfit’s ranks on loan from Forest.

Forest were linked with Milivojevic but they were right not to sign him

The Reds have done some great business in midfield. No fewer than four new players were added and each have their own qualities.

Lewis O’Brien, Cheikhou Kouyate, Remo Freuler and Orel Mangala have all been added to the ranks.

Milivojevic is now 31 and although that’s not particularly old, he’d perhaps have been viewed as a short-term option.

Heading to Greece looks like the ideal move for the £80,000-aweek player and he should get a strong run of games in the team over there.

Milivojevic is a very capable player but given the midfielders that were signed, the Reds shouldn’t regret this one too much.
