Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has confirmed that Omar Richards isn’t back in full training yet.

The former Bayern Munich man was injured shortly after signing for the Reds in the summer.

Some images snapped by the club’s media team this week, however, did show him out running on the grass.

It would seem as though any notion of him being back in training is premature, with Cooper suggesting otherwise.

Richards spent a single season with the Bavarian giants and made 17 appearances for them during the 2021/22 campaign.

Forest added the left-back to their ranks in the summer, along with Harry Toffolo and Renan Lodi.

That area of the pitch is well-stocked but it does seem as though Richards is still some way off being available for selection.

The Forest head coach told Nottinghamshire Live: “He is not back training. We are really happy with his progress, we are seeing him frequently on the grass.

“He’s not with us yet, but we are close to the final stages of his rehab. It’s still weeks rather than days, be we are really happy with his commitment.

“It has been a frustrating time for him. We managed to lure him to come here and after a few days he picked up the injury and we’ve not seen him in training since.”

This is a bit of a blow for the Reds, although Toffolo and Lodi are more than capable of holding the fort.

Richards will be a useful option to call upon given that he’s also capable of playing further forward.

It will be interesting to see what the youngster can bring to the table when he is finally fit.

Richards does have experience of playing in England having come through the academy ranks with Reading.

After returning to England, the player will hope to be back on the pitch and playing in the Premier League as quickly as possible.
