Following the addition of Simon Gillett on Saturday, Daniel Ayala joined Nottingham Forest today on a season-long loan from Norwich while Jamaal Lascelles has put pen to a new four-year deal.

Just a few hours ahead of the friendly against Notts County at Meadow Lane, the club confirmed Ayala, a Spanish Under-21 international, was the sixth new signing of the summer.

Forest chairman Omar Al Hasawi said: “It is pleasing to have signed a player with such a wonderful pedigree.

“He’s only 21 but has experienced life in the Premier League, as well as in the Championship, and adds to the defensive resources at Sean O’Driscoll’s disposal.”

Ayala joined Norwich from Liverpool last summer following loan spells at Hull and Derby — injuries have limited his appearances since his senior debut in 2009.

And Lascelles, the 18-year-old central defender linked with both Arsenal and Spurs, has pledged his long-term future after signing a four-year contract.

The former Academy player told Forest Player: “I’m over the moon to have signed a new contract — although to be honest it was a little bit unexpected.

“I’m just glad I’m staying at Forest because that’s all I’ve ever wanted.

“Every day I work hard in training and try my best and want nothing more than to make my mark as a Forest player.”

Meanwhile, West Brom are understood to have accepted an offer from Forest for Simon Cox although a number of other clubs are believed to be interested in the Republic of Ireland striker.

Sky Sports believes O’Driscoll also has his eye on Norwich defender Elliott Ward.
