Norwich defender Elliott Ward to join Forest on loan

The Premier League defender set to join Nottingham Forest on loan is believed to be Norwich City centre-back Elliott Ward.

Sean O’Driscoll is expected to bring in a new emergency loan player as well as a ‘mystery out-of-contract player’ following injuries to Sam Hutchinson and Daniel Ayala. Hutchinson is to undergo assessment by Chelsea on a knee injury sustained in the game against Crystal Palace last month while Ayala will be out for up to two weeks with a hamstring injury. Greg Halford is also liable to suspension having been booked four times this season.

Ward was a key member of Norwich’s promotion-winning side of 2010-11 and played a part in Paul Lambert’s Premier League campaign last season. Having fallen out of favour under new manager Chris Hughton, Ward failed to make the club’s 25-man squad and is ineligible to play until January. He was targeted by Forest during August to no avail.

The 27-year-old defender also spent a short period on loan under O’Driscoll at Doncaster Rovers before his move to Norwich in 2010.

If a deal is confirmed tomorrow he could be part of the squad playing Barnsley on Saturday. Comfortable on the ball and inclined to step out of defence, Ward should be a good fit with O’Driscoll’s footballing philosophy.

Following the news that John Pemberton is returning to the Forest set-up, it looks like a good week for the Reds.
