Gonzalo Jara Reyes has returned to Nottingham Forest on a one-year deal following his release from West Bromwich Albion.

The 27-year-old right-back joined the Reds on loan in January and was believed to be talking to a Spanish side about a move to La Liga as a free agent, but instead joins Eric Lichaj as a permanent addition to the squad.

The Chilean international joined West Brom from Santiago’s Colo-Colo in 2009 and made 56 appearances for the Baggies as well as a loan period at Brighton & Hove Albion. The versatile defender can play across the back four and as a defensive midfielder.

Billy Davies said: “I am very pleased Gonzalo has agreed to join us for next season. He made a terrific impact while on loan with us last year and it was hugely disappointing to lose him to injury at such a crucial stage in the campaign.

“He gives us real strength in depth and brings with him an abundance of experience from the top level of the game.”

Further signings are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
