Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of recently-released Barcelona defender Roger Riera

The 19-year-old centre-back has joined on a two-year deal after his contract was not extended at the Catalan club. Riera spent nine years at La Masia, Barcelona’s infamous youth academy, captaining every team he has played for, winning a title every year, finishing with the UEFA Youth League last season.

The former Barcelona Juvenil A (Under-19) defender revealed the news on Twitter following speculation after Spanish reports at the weekend.

Separately, Stuart Pearce is believed to have had a £1.75m bid for Middlesbrough’s Albert Adomah rejected, according to the Teesside Gazette. Trialists Mikele Leigertwood and Amadou Haidara have both joined the squad in Portugal.

Rafik Djebbour has also left the club ‘by mutual consent’.
