Nottingham Forest have signed Michael Mancienne from Hamburg SV on a three-year contract, for a fee believed to be around £1 million

The former Chelsea defender can play as a centre-back and defensive midfielder, as well as full-back, and made 30 appearances for England Under-21s while Stuart Pearce was manager.

The 26-year-old began his career at the West London club at the age of nine. However, despite representing England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level he made just six senior appearances and established his reputation on loan at QPR and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mancienne joined the Bundesliga side in 2011 for £1.75 million, joining up with former Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen who was appointed as Hamburg’s sporting director the same year.

The Feltham-born player has been linked with Sunderland, Swansea, Stoke and Fulham in recent months as his contract expired next summer.
