Aitor Karanka’s midfield selection has been one of this season’s hot topics among Nottingham Forest supporters.

Ben Watson, Jack Colback, Adlene Guedioura and more recently, Claudio Yacob, have all battled for the two spots in the Spaniard’s team.

With the ex-Middlesbrough man preferring a 4-2-3-1 formation, the midfield must possess a perfect blend of players.

The Reds travel to Hull City this weekend and it represents the perfect chance to unleash an untried pairing onto the Championship.

Jack Colback and Claudio Yacob are two players who could form a formidable tandem; with both showing in recent weeks just how important they are to Karanka.

Some of the more cynical Forest supporters don’t seem to understand what Colback does; to a degree his game is all about keeping things simple, breaking up play and getting the ball to the more creative players.

Yacob showed every inch of his worth in a recent win over Sheffield United; the 31-year-old has taken some time to get up to full fitness, but now looks as though he could be a big player for Forest this season.

It would perhaps be a little harsh on Guedioura should the axe fall for the trip to the KCOM Stadium; although in recent weeks he has seemed somewhat jaded and out of sorts.

The Tigers have been packing out their midfield this season; making the pairing of  Colback and Yacob ideal for this weekend.

With lots of games on the horizon with the busy Christmas period approaching, the ability to rotate could give Forest an edge on their rivals.

Guedioura will definitely get another chance to impress; although right now seems like a brilliant opportunity to see what Colback and Yacob can do in unison.
