Former Nottingham Forest loanee Lee Tomlin today re-signed for Peterborough United on loan, as confirmed via the BBC.

The 29-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground.

He has only made 16 appearances for Cardiff City since joining the club in July 2017.

He is yet to make a single first-team appearance this season.

Tomlin will be hoping he can reignite his career at a club close to his heart.

Tomlin a popular figure at Forest

There is no doubt that the talismanic forward established himself as a popular figure during his short stint with the Reds.

He made a total of 15 appearances, scoring four goals in the process.

It didn’t take long for Tomlin’s style of play to draw comparisons to former Reds midfielder Andy Reid, such was his quality on the ball.

His special relationship with Aitor Karanka was also there for all to see.

However, Karanka was fully aware of Tomlin’s habit of producing inconsistent performances, telling the Nottingham Post last February: “He is the kind of player when you want kiss him, then you want to kill him.

“He is the kind of player I like a lot, because he is a man who can manage the pressure.

“You can be mad with him one minute and happy with him the next. He is a good player and he trusts me.”

There was speculation that Karanka would look to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.

However, this was always going to be unlikely once João Carvalho’s record breaking £13 million move to Forest was confirmed.

Despite the goalposts changing for the Reds this season, Tomlin undoubtedly still has the quality to produce in the Championship.

It would therefore be no surprise to see him boost Peterborough’s promotion chances and help them return to the second tier in the second half of the season.

After his surprising choice to drop down to League One, Seat Pitch rounded up exactly what Reds supporters had to say about Tomlin’s time at Forest.
