Another player departed Nottingham Forest on loan this evening when goalkeeper Jordan Smith joined Mansfield Town until the end of the campaign, as confirmed via BBC Sport.

The Stags are flying high in League Two and Smith’s arrival will only enhance their chances of winning promotion to League One.

Smith was on the bench against Chelsea in the FA Cup on Saturday but he has fallen down the pecking order behind Costel Pantilimon and Luke Steele at the City Ground.

The signing represents a coup for Mansfield, with Smith boasting 48 Championship appearances to his name.

Forest boss Aitor Karanka has been keen for his fringe players to be playing regular football and it looks certain that Smith will benefit from that at One Call Stadium.

It would seem that the Reds boss is delighted with how the Stags are nurturing one of their other talented academy players; with Tyler Walker on a rich vein of goalscoring form at the Stags this season.

The 22-year-old has netted 15 times in 30 games for David Flitcroft’s team this season, firing them into contention for automatic promotion.

Signing a goalkeeper who has played so many games in the Championship can only bode well for the Stags – and parent club Forest.

The Stags get their hands on a superb shot-stopper; whilst the Reds get some much-needed match sharpness for a player who the club hope can make an impact on the first-team in the future.

Winning promotion with Mansfield could be just the confidence boost that Smith needs to get his Forest career back on track.
