Nottingham Forest have announced that winger Arvin Appiah has signed a new long-term deal with the club, according to the official website.

The Reds have tied the promising youngster down to a four-and-a-half-year deal. Considering recent speculation about his future, it is a welcome boost for everyone connected with the club.

The 18-year-old has only made two appearances for the Reds this season. These have both been substitute appearances. However, he did manage to score on his debut against Burton in the Carabao Cup.

It remains to be seen whether Appiah is now given an opportunity in the first-team. Martin O’Neill is expected to have the Reds challenging for the play-offs, so giving the youngster a chance may not be his priority.

Appiah delighted with new deal

Speaking to the club’s official site, Appiah has expressed his delight on securing a fresh deal. He said: “I am delighted to sign a new contract at this great club.

“I have been here since the age of nine so being around the first-team, training and travelling with them, it is a great opportunity to gain experience so I am delighted.

“I have learned a lot, being around such experienced players as Michael Dawson, Lewis Grabban and Danny Fox.”

According to a report in the Telegraph, Appiah’s lack of opportunities were a key reason behind Aitor Karanka’s departure. The youngster is held in high regard by the club’s hierarchy.

Therefore, O’Neill may have been encouraged to give Appiah an opportunity by Evangelos Marinakis before taking the job. If this is the case, you’d expect him to be named in the matchday squad at least, over the next few weeks.

Following the announcement of Appiah’s new deal, Seat Pitch rounded up exactly what Forest supporters had to say about the youngster.
