Into stoppage-time with a two-goal advantage and three points all-but wrapped up.

Time to relax and stop biting the nails.

Wait, what are you doing Jack!

Colback crunches into a needless challenge with seconds left on the clock and subsequently sees a yellow card flashed in his face.

Said caution is the Nottingham Forest midfielder’s 10th of the season.

He now faces a ban.

For a tackle that he didn’t need to make.

Doh!

Colback is set to sit out the Reds’ next two games after becoming overly familiar with the referee’s notebook.

Those outings will be against Birmingham and Brentford.

Less than impressed

Away at St Andrew’s on Saturday and at home to the Bees the following weekend.

It is fair to say that Martin O’Neill was less than impressed with the actions of a player he knows well from a previous spell at Sunderland.

The Forest boss said in the Nottingham Post: “It is very, very annoying.

“In the 90th minute of the game when you have a two goal lead? It might have been different had we been hanging on.

“Jack has done well and I know him from the past. He is very, very competitive. But you do not want to be picking up silly bookings along the way.

“In this day and age, now, you can pick up bookings almost at leisure. You have to be more careful.”

The repercussions of Colback’s rush of blood may be two-fold.

And we’re not just talking about the two games he is about to sit out.

Now, with Forest seeking to fire themselves back into the promotion picture, is not a time to be giving up a starting berth.

Especially one that you had no need to surrender.

O’Neill has already shown that he is prepared to make bold calls and keep everyone guessing.

Model of consistency

If Colback needs any reminding of how hard it is to get into the XI, he need look no further than Joao Carvalho.

The Portuguese is a £13 million record signing, per BBC Sport, and can’t get a game.

Forest don’t even own Colback and have offered no indication as yet as to whether a second spell will be extended beyond the end of the season.

He has been a rare model of consistency this term and would be a welcome permanent addition.

His place is about to be handed to someone else though.

Having started Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Wigan on the bench, Claudio Yacob may be the man to step back in.

Ryan Yates, forgotten man Liam Bridcutt and the versatile Ben Osborn could be other options in the middle of the park – and there are still three days of the transfer window left in which to bolster the ranks.

Were anyone to come in and catch the eye, then Colback’s enforced absence may be extended.

You would imagine that he has enough credit in the bank to come straight back into the XI.

There are no guarantees, though, and he may be left to curse his penchant for card collecting.
