Nottingham Forest face Derby County on Monday in the latest instalment of the East Midlands Derby.

With both sides looking to secure a place in the Championship play-offs, it’s set to be an intriguing encounter. The Rams are currently four points better off with two games in hand. This can all change very quickly though.

The gap between the two sides would’ve been smaller had the Reds not been let down by poor officials in recent games.

There’s nothing Forest can do about it now. They have to focus on the next challenge, which is a home game against the Rams. They’ll have to hope that their luck changes in front of a sell-out crowd at the City Ground.

Derby ‘will still choke’ in promotion race

Forest legend Kenny Burns has recently spoken in the Nottingham Post about  next week’s game. He believes if the Reds can get the better of Frank Lampard’s side in the individual battles, they’ll have a good chance of securing all three points.

He said: “It’s all about what Forest do on Monday; forget about them. There will be 11 battles going on all over the pitch, and how many we win will make the difference.”

The Rams’ form has been fairly inconsistent of late. However, Lampard has done a reasonably good job considering it’s his first managerial venture. Not many people at Pride Park would’ve expected to be much higher than they are before the season kicked off.

Despite their current position, Burns doesn’t think they’ll be able to secure promotion to the Premier League.

He said: “Overall, you have to say Frank Lampard has done well there. But they will still choke when it comes to trying to get promotion.

“Derby have got some good players, like Harry Wilson, Mason Mount, Tom Lawrence… but they haven’t got a clue how to use them.

“We can beat them, no question about that, but we’ll have to wait and see how we do on the day.

“Hopefully we’re not talking about the referee at the end of it. Hopefully it passes without incident and the best team win – which is Forest, obviously.”
