Derby County striker Martyn Waghorn has told the Derby Telegraph that Nottingham Forest didn’t impress him during last night’s contest.

Martin O’Neill’s side ran out 1-0 winners at the City Ground thank to Yohan Benalouane’s goal after 74 seconds.

Derby had the vast majority of possession last night but it’s fair to say that they never really troubled goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon.

The Rams’ big-money striker Waghorn fluffed his lines shortly after Forest’s opener and he should really have hit the target instead of firing wide.

The ex-Rangers man didn’t think Forest possessed a lot of quality, however, and expected more.

He told the Derby Telegraph: ” I don’t think they caused us any real difficulties.

“They weren’t great going forward. They hit us on the counter a couple of times but I think for the majority of the game, we controlled the ball, without creating many chances.”

Forest always had the Rams where they wanted them following the opener and Waghorn is somewhat wrong when he says the Reds didn’t trouble Derby.

Joe Lolley, Daryl Murphy and Ryan Yates could all have given the Reds a bigger advantage.

Clearly hurting following the crushing defeat, Forest didn’t play how Waghorn expected.

He continued: “They’ve won a game where they got an early, scrappy goal and just clung on.

“I thought they would come out more and I was a bit disappointed by them.”

Forest have adopted a new style under O’Neill’s management and it isn’t all about possession-based football.

The Reds have found a way to become tough to beat and recently the results have picked up.

Waghorn could perhaps focus a little more on his wayward finishing rather than O’Neill’s style of football.
