Nottingham Forest claimed their first win over Derby County for nearly four years, running out 1-0 victors at the City Ground last night.

The Reds are now unbeaten in four and as a result, they sit just three points adrift of a play-off place.

Ex-Leicester defender Yohan Benalouane secured the massive win by netting his first goal for the club after just 74 seconds.

Martin O’Neill has worked wonders in such a short space of time and already the Reds are looking harder to beat.

Forest were made to work hard defensively but Costel Pantilimon in goal had very little to do on a quiet night for the stopper.

With Bristol City and Derby still holding games in hand on the Reds, it would still take a remarkable run to gatecrash the play-offs.

Forest will be reliant on others dropping points but all O’Neill’s men can do is continue to pile the pressure on their rivals.

Last night’s matchwinner Benalouane arrived on Trentside as an unknown quantity but could well leave a cult hero.

The Tunisian has a broken bone in his skull but has strapped a mask on and got on with doing his job in recent weeks.

Benalouane is looking like one of the best pieces of business Forest have done in many years and he already looks integral to the Reds’ fortunes.

Following the contest last night, the defender took to Twitter, saying:

The loyal Reds supporters were quick to thank Benalouane for another resolute performance.
