Nottingham Forest is a potential destination for Ayr United goal machine Lawrence Shankland, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Reds are reportedly keen on the hotshot who was subject to a rejected £200,000 bid from Swansea City in January.

Shankland netted goal number 31 for the season in all competitions during Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat to Ross County.

The 23-year-old wouldn’t break the bank for Forest but is he worth the risk?

He would represent something of an unknown quantity, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he can’t play.

Alex Milosevic and Yohan Benalouane have both arrived recently with not too many fans knowing a great deal about either.

The impact of both has been significant and they have both vastly improved the Forest team.

The Scottish Championship is not exactly the best league in the world but there is a real knack to knowing where the back of the net is.

Shankland clearly excels in that aspect as proven by 31 goals in 31 appearances this season.

The more cynical supporters should let the recruitment team crack on with their job.

If the highly-rated Scot proves to be on the summer list of targets then it is a decision that should be backed.

Jason Cummings arrived from Hibernian with big things expected. He proved to be useless, an enigmatic character who now can’t get a game at League One Luton Town where he is on loan.

There is, of course, nothing that suggests Shankland won’t go the same way.

Who knows though, he could well prove to be a gem that is waiting for an English club to unearth him.

Whether Forest do make a move remains to be seen.

As previously mentioned he wouldn’t cost a fortune and as a result, it could be viewed as a dice worth rolling by the club.
