The Premier League club will now decide whether to pursue the youngster further.

With Forest boasting a well-respected academy, Etete might have been ideal to come in and develop his career further.

It was the Daily Mail who reported interest from the Reds back in January and it remains to be seen whether the club are still keen.

Etete was given his Magpies debut under former boss Harry Kewell.

He was called upon against Newcastle in the Checkatrade Trophy and did okay during his debut.

The speed merchant of a striker certainly didn’t disappoint Spurs on Saturday.

His two goals guided the Under-18s to a 5- 3 win over West Ham United, doing his chances of earning a move no harm at all.

The Reds have produced some quality players of their own over the years.

Indeed, it has never really been Forest’s style to go poaching youngsters from other professional clubs. As a result, academy director, Gary Brazil has opted to nurture players already at his disposal.

Etete might still go down as a transfer deal that got away though, particularly if he ends up with a Premier League club.
