Nottingham Forest edged closer to the play-off places in the Championship with a 3-0 win over Hull City at the City Ground.

Martin O’Neill’s team have now won four games on the spin on Trentside and face Aston Villa at home on Wednesday night.

The Reds will know that all they can do is keep winning games and the Hull victory proved comprehensive in the end.

Goals from Joao Carvalho, Karim Ansarifard and Joe Lolley ensured the win and kept the Tigers below Forest in the table.

Following the game, we looked at three things we learned about the Reds…

Forest’s win over Hull was their fourth in succession at home.

After a long search it finally looks as though the Reds have found consistency at the City Ground.

Supporters have attended in their droves this season and are now been rewarded with regular wins.

If Forest are to gatecrash the top six the minimum requirement will be to win their home games.

O’Neill has certainly found the winning formula when it comes to playing at home.

Competition for places hotting up

It was O’Neill’s substitutes who turned the game in Forest’s favour on Saturday.

Joao Carvalho and Karim Ansarifard were both introduced in the second half and had a positive impact on the performance.

Both players will be chomping at the bit for a start against Villa.

In midfield, Pele made his debut and was excellent throughout.

Competition for places seems to be increasing at a decent time for the Reds.

Carvalho is crucial

Joao Carvalho offered the Forest boss a glimpse of the quality he possesses with a stunning display.

The Portuguese magician bagged shortly after coming on to give Forest the lead and provide the spark that had been lacking.

Carvalho possesses all the tricks and flicks in the book and the key for him is to add consistency to his game.

On yesterday’s 22-minute cameo, O’Neill will find it very difficult not to start him on Wednesday.
