Nottingham Forest midfielder Matty Cash is in defiant mood over the club’s push for the play-offs, telling the Nottingham Post that they can still reach the top-six.

Cash returned from injury in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town and he has pinpointed three key games for the Reds.

The 21-year-old told the Nottingham Post: “We still have to play Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday and they are all up there.

“There is a chance to take points off them and we definitely think we can do it.”

Cash’s creativity has been sorely missed in the Reds’ starting line-up in recent weeks.

His return is a timely boost for boss Martin O’Neill who will be delighted to have him back for the final eight games of the season.

The Forest academy graduate would also like to see the team overcome another obstacle between now and the end of the campaign.

He continued: “We are frustrated that we have not won back-t0-back games since September, of course. Now is the time for us to go and do that, isn’t it? If we can address that now we can push on.”

The Seat Pitch Verdict

Cash’s determination is refreshing but for Forest, it is time to walk the walk.

Players coming out and saying one thing then doing another won’t wash with supporters and it is important the Reds deliver between now and May.

Cash is right, though, if Forest can start by putting back-to-back wins together then that could bode well.

Aston Villa have proved that putting successive wins together in this league can pay dividends.

They have shot from mid-table to the top six by winning four on the spin.

If Forest can have a good two weeks on the training ground and come back firing, then all might not be lost just yet.
