Forest are three points off the Championship play-off places and know they must hit good form over the last eight games.

O’Neill’s results since taking over from Aitor Karanka have been something of a mixed bag.

The European Cup winner has overseen four wins, four defeats and three draws from 11 matches.

That kind of form probably won’t be good enough to gatecrash the top-six and improvements are necessary.

Forest’s training took a different direction yesterday, as the players took part in an in-house training match at the City Ground.

The usual faces were on display as a side wearing the home kit took on a team in the gold away strip.

Sam Byram stepped-up his recovery scoring the last goal for the Reds in a 5-1 victory.

Diogo Goncalves, Claudio Yacob, Karim Ansarifard and Saidy Janko bagging the other goals.

It was perhaps the form of forgotten man Joao Carvalho that caught the eye.

Forest’s record signing has found himself down the pecking order under O’Neill but demonstrated his quality with three assists.

The 22-year-old’s performance got Forest fans excited on social media.

We rounded up the best tweets from the emerging footage of the in-house training game.
