Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing Wigan Athletic winger Gavin Massey, according to the Daily Mail.
The Reds only have eight games left before the end of the season. With their play-off hopes looking slim, Martin O’Neill will have one eye on next season.
Massey is one of the first players to be linked with a move to the City Ground in the summer.

In this case, the 26-year-old is out of contract at the DW Stadium in a few months. According to the Daily Mail‘s report, the Latics have opened contract talks with the winger. But it remains to seen whether these are successful with both the Reds and Queens Park Rangers said to be closely monitoring his situation.
The winger is believed to be keen on remaining with the Latics. However, with Paul Cook’s side sat just three points clear of the relegation zone, the prospect of League One football next season may be a concern.
How would Massey fit in?
The Reds have certainly been held back by their lack of wide options this season. It could be argued that Joe Lolley and Diogo Gonçalves are the only natural wingers at the club.

Both Ben Osborn and Matty Cash have also been utilised as wingers this season, but would perhaps argue that their best position is in central midfield.
For this reason, it isn’t a surprise that O’Neill is keen on adding to his wide options. Massey is certainly a player that matches the required criteria.
He’s come back into form of late for the Latics, being mainly utilised on the right-hand side. In the 14 appearances he has made in the Championship this season, he has found the back of the net three times, whilst picking up one assist.

That isn’t a bad record for a team struggling at the bottom of the division. If he had the likes of Lolley and Lewis Grabban playing alongside him, his statistics would surely improve.
For the time-being, Massey will be focused on helping the Latics achieve survival. But if he does become available in the summer, he’s certainly a player that the Reds should consider making a move for.
