Former Nottingham Forest winger Barrie McKay makes a return to the City Ground this weekend with Swansea City.

Martin O’Neill’s side are still in with a shout of the play-off places but must start winning consistently if they are to gatecrash the top six.

The Reds have looked good at home recently, but were defeated last time out at the City Ground by Aston Villa. They will be hoping to respond to that defeat by picking up three points against the Swans.

One player who will be looking to make sure that isn’t the case is ex-Red McKay.

Having not started a game for the Swans since mid-February, the 24-year-old will be desperate to make an impact in this game.

Attitude

When McKay originally joined the Reds for reportedly £500,000 from Rangers, he looked to be an absolute bargain.

It felt too good to be true.

He’d scored five goals and racked up seven assists before Christmas. He was ever-present under the management of Mark Warburton. But as soon as things got tough over the festive period, he became seemingly disinterested.

Aitor Karanka wasted no time in freezing the winger out of the squad. He made just four appearances under the Spaniard and failed to pick up another goal or assist for the rest of the season.

It’s remarkable how similar McKay’s current situation is turning out to be.

After scoring once and picking up four assists before Christmas in the Championship, he hasn’t registered a single league goal or assist since. His dip in form hasn’t gone unnoticed by Graham Potter.

He has only started one league game for the Swans since the beginning of the year.

‘Useless’, ‘Don’t want to see him play again’

There’s no doubt that Swansea supporters have become frustrated with the winger’s performances in recent months. Seat Pitch have rounded up exactly what they’ve been saying on social media.
