Former Nottingham Forest defender Colin Barrett has told Seat Pitch that striker Lewis Grabban has done his job this season.

Barrett is a member of the famous European Cup winning side from the 1979/80 campaign. He netted a historic goal against Liverpool during the first round of Forest’s maiden success in Europe.

Now a regular spectator at the City Ground, the ex-left-back believes it is a firm case of job done for Grabban during 2018/19.

He said: “Lewis has come in and to be fair to him he’s got 17 goals this season. That is really a case of job well done.

“If you take into consideration the time he’s had out injured – and the missed penalties – he’d easily have 20 goals this season.”

Grabban has missed various periods throughout the season through injury, but Barrett has backed the 31-year-old to take on the goalscoring mantle next season.

He continued: “Lewis is a goalscorer and you don’t sell goalscorers. That’s a fact. He has 17 goals at this minute from 30-odd games and that’s in a side that’s not playing free-flowing football at this moment time. That is a pretty good return.”

Playing to his strengths

Grabban was somewhat out of sorts on Saturday in defeat to Blackburn. He missed a few uncharacteristic chances during the first 45 minutes in particular.

The man who made 66 appearances for the Reds believes the Forest talisman needs the team to play to his strengths to help him find the net even more frequently.

Speaking on the service to the ex-Bournemouth man, he said: “Grabban isn’t going to go winning the ball in the air against big central defenders. You’ve got to play it on the floor to him.

“If you’ve got Daryl Murphy up top then his strength are in the air, so you play that way. With Grabban it has to go to feet. He could help himself by showing a bit more often, so he needs to work on that.

“He comes alive in the box though. If Forest can get the ball into the box for him, more often than not he has finished them off this season.”
