Reported Nottingham Forest target Gavin Massey looks set to sign a new contract at Wigan Athletic, according to Wigan Post.
The Daily Mail reported last month that the Reds were interested in the winger, alongside both Derby County and Queens Park Rangers. But it seems that the 26-year-old has opted to remain at the DW Stadium.
“Yes, we are hoping to get something sorted,” Massey told the Wigan Post.

“I know I’ve said this before but I do love being here at this club. I’ve built some good friendships up here, I live here now with my missus, and so it would be ideal for me to stay here.
“Obviously with the situation at the club – and us now knowing if we were coming or going – it wasn’t straight-forward.
“But now we know our destination is the Championship, hopefully that can get sorted over the next few weeks.”
Threat
There’s no doubt that Massey has been a key figure for the Latics this season. Paul Cook’s side sealed their Championship survival at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Preston North End, a game in which Massey started.

The in-form winger has picked up five goals and one assist this season. That isn’t a bad return for a winger playing in a team struggling at the wrong end of the division.
He scored a brace against Leeds United at Elland Road on Good Friday which showed exactly what he is capable of. It’s fair to say he is emerging as one of the most dangerous wingers in the division.
Having been linked with the Reds last month, Massey was one of the first players to be linked with a move to the City Ground in the summer. Martin O’Neill will certainly now have an eye on his summer transfer business.

It’s clear to see why the Northern Irishman is looking to strengthen his wide options. The Reds have been far too reliant on Joe Lolley at times this season, with very few other wide options. Massey would’ve certainly added to the squad.
For the time-being though, it seems that the Reds will have to look at other options. But until Massey has signed on the dotted line, there’s always a chance his contract negotiations could stall. O’Neill will be hoping that this could be the case.
