Nottingham Forest must keep Alexander Milosevic around the City Ground

Nottingham Forest will bring the curtain down on the 2018/19 campaign with a home game against crisis club Bolton Wanderers on Sunday.

The Reds can still secure a top-eight finish and after years of finishing in the lower regions of the Championship, that will represent a small ounce of progression at the very least.

Attention will quickly turn towards next season following Sunday. Boss Martin O’Neill will probably already have a firm idea of who he wants to keep around next season.

One of the players the boss must keep around is Alexander Milosevic.

The big Swede was bizarrely left out of the side for five games recently, before returning as a substitute for the Good Friday trip to Sheffield United.

Milosevic oozes class. The free transfer is arguably one of the best pieces of inbound business done by the Reds in recent memory and his record speaks for itself. In 10 starts for Forest, he has helped the team towards five clean sheets.

Players like the 27-year-old don’t come around all too often. To offload Milosevic and sign a similar defender would cost the club millions.

With Michael Dawson and Tobias Figueiredo struggling with injuries this season, there are concerns over just how much football they might play again next season.

Milosevic is reliable, hardworking and he can actually defend. O’Neill would be wise to not only keep him around the club but also build the entire defensive unit around his presence.

There will undoubtedly be some unpopular departures among supporters in the summer, that’s the nature of the beast when it comes to football. One thing is certain though; Milosevic shouldn’t be one of those leaving the club.
