Jamie Ward and Stephen Henderson have been released by Nottingham Forest, a club statement has confirmed this morning.
The ex-Derby winger and the strapping goalkeeper were named as departures as the Reds released their retained list.
Leo Bonatini, Sam Byram, Jack Colback, Diogo Goncalves, Saidy Janko, Pele and Molla Wague have all returned to their parent clubs.
Adam Crookes who spent the season out on loan with Lincoln and Port Vale has been released; whilst Alex Iacovitti is another casualty from the club’s academy.
It won’t come as much surprise to see Ward or Henderson released. He served a purpose for the Reds at a time when the club was operating under a transfer embargo but he has been out of the first-team picture recently.
Henderson played just 16 times for Forest and spent time on loan at Portsmouth and Wycombe Wanderers.
The Seat Pitch Verdict
It is always an interesting time of the year for supporters when the inevitable article goes onto the official website entitled ‘Retained List’.
For Forest, it isn’t really anything that is out of the ordinary this time around. Martin O’Neill still has a lot of players to shift out with 34 first-team players still under contract.
It seems likely that some contracts might be ripped up. The likes Liam Bridcutt, Apostolos Vellios, Zach Clough and Jason Cummings wouldn’t seem to have any future under O’Neill.
There is also the sense that some unpopular decisions might be made by the manager. Claudio Yacob was out of favour at the back end of the campaign; whilst Adlene Guedioura and Tendayi Darikwa both fell down the pecking order.
It will be an interesting summer for Forest supporters as the boss reshapes his squad and today’s list simply gets the ball rolling.
