Tyrone Mings joined Aston Villa on loan from AFC Bournemouth in January, amid interest from Nottingham Forest.
The Reds missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs, whilst Aston Villa look set for a trip to Wembley at the end of the month. Dean Smith’s side won 3-1 at the City Ground in mid-March which realistically ended any hopes of the Reds gate-crashing the play-offs.
There’s no doubt that Mings has played a key role.
The 26-year-old would really rub salt in the wounds if he managed to lead his side to the Premier League.

One of the main reasons why the Villans made the play-offs was their 10-game winning streak. It’s fair to say that if it wasn’t for Mings’ rock solid performances at the back, this may not have happened.
Having established himself as a fans’ favourite, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he joined permanently in the summer. Having paid £8 million for him four years ago though, Bournemouth are unlikely to let him leave on the cheap.
So Forest could soon be kicking themselves. They had their chance to bring Mings to the City Ground and missed it after all.
The Nottingham Post claimed back in January that the Reds had already agreed a loan fee with Bournemouth for the defender, before he joined Villa. And Martin O’Neill’s side would go on to miss out on the play-offs in disappointing fashion.
The defender would have certainly been a superb signing for the Reds. Maybe Forest would have joined Villa in the play-offs if they’d signed Mings.
