Reported Nottingham Forest ‘target’ Cristhian Stuani is attracting interest from Barcelona, according to Mundo Deportivo

Martin O’Neill has made it clear that he is looking to improve his attacking options this summer. The Reds missed out on the play-offs by eight points last season, so improvements need to be made.

And with Stuani recently suggesting he could be on the move this summer, he is exactly the sort of player the Reds should be looking at.

The 32-year-old enjoyed another superb season on a personal level, finding the back of the net 19 times in La Liga last season for Girona. However, despite the fact he finished fifth-top scorer in the league, Girona were still ultimately relegated.

It seems unlikely that Stuani will remain at the club following their relegation. According to the Nottingham Post, the Spanish outfit have slapped a £6.1 million price tag on his head.

Big Competition

There’s no doubt that Stuani is likely to attract the attention of numerous sides this summer. Mundo Deportivo have recently reported that Barcelona are also interested in the former Middlesbrough man. However, they are first waiting to complete the signing of Atlético Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

In addition to the Reds and Barcelona, Mexican side CF Monterrey are also believed to be monitoring his situation.

One Reds supporter saw the funny side of the report on social media:

Stuani is currently away on international duty with Uruguay ahead of this summer’s Copa América. They are set to face Ecuador in their opening fixture on 16 June. The Copa América Final is currently scheduled for Sunday 7 July, so if Uruguay progress that far, it could be a while until Stuani’s future is finalised.

This isn’t the first time that the Reds have been interested in securing his signature. Aitor Karanka was also keen on bringing him to the City Ground last summer, according to Team Talk.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this situation develops in the coming weeks. The Reds couldn’t face greater competition for his signature than the five-time UEFA Champions League winners.
