Albert Adomah is among the more recent names to be linked with Nottingham Forest, and he could prove to be a shrewd addition.

As things stand, there is no proven substance to the rumours.

The Bristol Post claim that the Reds are in the mix.

They are able to lift the lid on supposed interest as Bristol City are also said be considering a move for a man dropping into the free agent pool.

Millwall are another side to be mentioned.

If Forest are keen, then they should fancy their chances of being able to fend off rivals at Ashton Gate and The Den.

Martin O’Neill needs to determine if he really is keen.

Questions are said to have been asked, but we don’t know what answers were offered or the decisions made.

Adomah certainly boasts the pedigree to make him an appealing prospect.

He helped Aston Villa win promotion to the Premier League in 2018-19.

Having previously done the same during a spell at Middlesbrough.

Reliable

In fact, a brief stint in the top tier with Boro aside, Adomah has spent the last decade in the Championship.

Since 2008-09, he has taken in 502 appearances across all competitions.

Over the course of that 10-year spell, the 31-year-old has never taken in fewer than 39 outings in any given campaign.

He can be relied upon.

Niggling knocks are clearly not an issue and plenty of his past managers have placed trust in him.

Should Martin O’Neill do likewise?

Unsurprisingly, as is often the case with any potential deal, there are pros and cons to Adomah.

His track record makes for impressive reading.

Along with consistently being in contention, the Ghana international has also delivered end product.

In the 372 Championship fixtures he has graced, 61 goals and 62 assists have been recorded.

There have been obvious peaks and troughs.

Detractors will point to the fact that he mustered just two assists and four goals last season – as Villa went up.

He did, however, create 27 chances so cannot be blamed for the finishing faults of others.

Upgrade

The discussion that has to be had concerns whether he is a substantial upgrade on Matty Cash.

Is that the case?

Adomah is 10 years older than a Reds academy graduate.

He will be past his peak, while Cash should still boast plenty of potential to be unlocked.

Experience, though, is key in a second tier dogfight and Adomah has been there, done it and got the t-shirt.

It must also be noted that he can be picked up for nothing.

He will have been on decent money at Villa, but any salary demands are countered by the lack of transfer fee.

Is he worth a punt?

Would he be any better than Cash?

Should someone like Kamil Grosicki by prioritised in Forest’s ongoing search for more creativity?

There are plenty of posers when it comes to Adomah, but seeing him arrive at the City Ground could prove to be a decent piece of business.
