Nottingham Forest have today confirmed the departure of Roy Keane as the club’s assistant manager, according to their official website.
The ex-Reds midfielder arrived at the club shortly after Martin O’Neill’s appointment as manager back in January.
It is thought that Keane had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave this summer and the decision comes after weeks of mulling over his next step.

The Guardian reports that the 47-year-old is keen to continue his own managerial career and is now keen to pursue other opportunities.
A short statement on the club’s official website said: “Working with Martin over the last few years has been a magnificent experience, one of my greatest in football both as a player and a coach and one I want to personally thank him for.”
Following news of his decision to leave the City Ground, Forest supporters have taken to Twitter to offer their thoughts.

The reactions are mixed. There is a general consensus that it’s not really an issue, whilst some feel that he needs replacing as soon as possible.
Here is a selection of what Forest fans were saying on Twitter following the news that Keane has left the club’s management team:
