Nottingham Forest’s week-long pre-season trip to Spain is coming to an end, and Matty Cash has revealed just how gruelling it has been.
It has been an intense week in Alicante’s soaring temperatures as the Frenchman has put his squad through their paces. Lamouchi will be hoping they are now more prepared for the demands of the upcoming Championship season.
One of the main objectives of pre-season trips is to build up fitness. This has certainly been the case for the Reds over the last week. On Thursday morning, the players were up for a 6.30am run, followed by a tough core workout later in the morning.

Having made his breakthrough for the Reds in 2016/17, Cash is no stranger to the demands of a first-team pre-season programme. Speaking to the club’s official media team about which aspect he enjoys the most, he said: “Maybe not the running!
“When you’ve had a tough day, it’s nice to get inside, get in bed and know that you’ve done your work and you’re getting fitter and stronger every day.
“When you’re going running and the hard training, it’s a grind but when you’ve done it, you’re fit and you’re happy.”
The 21-year-old winger is certainly a player who relies on his fitness throughout the season. He is a popular figure with the club’s supporters due to his energy levels and the fact he always puts in maximum effort.
There’s no doubt that a good fitness level is required throughout the entire squad in order to be successful in the Championship. The 46-game season is one of the most demanding in football. It’s impossible to get promoted without every player putting in a shift.
Due to the demands of pre-season, it isn’t a surprise that players are so keen for the season to get underway.

The Reds begin their 2019/20 Championship campaign against West Bromwich Albion on 3 August at the City Ground. It certainly isn’t the easiest opening game for Lamouchi to contend with.
However, with the big kick-off just a couple of weeks away, Cash is excited to get started.
He said: “We’re really looking to it. Four weeks away, it’s going to come quite quickly at us.
“The base that we’re building now is for the first game of the season ahead.”
