Nottingham Forest winger Sammy Ameobi has only been at the club a matter of weeks, but has already experienced a managerial change at the club.

The 27-year-old remains the only player to come through the door at the City Ground so far this summer. He was signed on a one-year contract as a free agent following his departure from Bolton Wanderers.

His move to join the Reds came about whilst Martin O’Neill was still in charge of the club. Since then, he has been dismissed and swiftly replaced by Sabri Lamouchi.

Having lasted just five months in charge, Ameobi will be hoping for a much longer stay at the City Ground than the manager who signed him.

Speaking on earning a longer deal with the Reds, the winger told the Nottingham Post: “It’s absolutely my aim to do that; to earn a longer term deal.

“I am very grateful to Forest for putting their trust in me, for having the belief in me to sign me.

“I hope this is a situation that might look like something that can become long-term, in the future.”

Threat

As the Reds were also interested in Ameobi in January, it seems that he was highly-rated by O’Neill. The Northern Irishman was keen to add strong, powerful forwards to his squad ahead of next season.

However, that’s not to say that he won’t be as highly-rated by Lamouchi.

The Reds only had one recognised winger before snapping up Ameobi in the form of Joe Lolley. Matty Cash has often been utilised on the right-hand side, but Ameobi offers natural width they lacked last season.

Lamouchi has a history of utilising a 4-2-3-1 formation at his previous clubs, which would certainly suit Ameobi. The Reds would be a threat with Lolley, Ameobi and João Carvalho all supporting Lewis Grabban.

Ameobi remains just as excited for the 2019/20 Championship campaign, despite the change in manager. He will be hoping he can still help the Reds fight for promotion.

It will certainly be interesting to see how he fits into Lamouchi’s side.
