Nottingham Forest are under four weeks away from getting their 2019/20 campaign underway.

The Reds finished ninth last season and new boss Sabri Lamouchi will be under no illusions of the task ahead of him. He’ll be expected to have the Reds challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

Forest were put through their paces on a week-long training camp in Spain last week. They will now be working towards the pre-season game against Atromitos in Greece this weekend.

As the start of the new season approaches, Lamouchi will be starting to consider what his best side might be.

According to the Irish Sun, one player that has been told he is free to leave the club is Daryl Murphy. The report suggests that the 36-year-old has been told he won’t be part of the new manager’s plans.

Murphy’s potential exit, in particular, should hand young Tyler Walker the chance to shine.

The academy graduate tweeted two weeks ago that he is glad to be back training with the Reds. On that basis alone, he should be in shape to try and force his way into the side in the coming weeks.

Walker is a versatile attacking player but primarily plays as a striker.

The 22-year-old enjoyed the most productive season of his career on loan at Mansfield Town last season. He scored 26 goals in all competitions, and was named on League Two’s PFA Team of the Year.

Murphy is unlikely to feature much for the Reds next season; even if he isn’t able to secure a move elsewhere.

The Reds are well-known for giving their young players a chance to shine, and Walker has already been able to make 33 appearances. However, he hasn’t quite been able to hold down a place in the first team.

If Walker does impress during pre-season it could tempt Forest into saving money and not spending millions on signing a quality striker.

The Reds do already have Lewis Grabban and Karim Ansarifard, and Walker could be the perfect back-up option.
