Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of goalkeeper Arijanet Muric on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
Nottingham Forest’s latest signing Arijanet Muric says he is looking forward to the challenge of playing for the Reds in the Championship, as reported on Manchester City’s official site.
The Reds finished ninth in the Championship last season, missing out on the play-offs by eight points. The club’s hierarchy have since opted to make a managerial change with Sabri Lamouchi replacing Martin O’Neill.
Lamouchi has already been busy in the transfer market with Muric becoming his fourth addition already. Tiago Silva, Alfa Semedo and Yuri Ribeiro have all arrived at the City Ground in the last week.
Muric, highly-rated by Pep Guardiola, will remain at the City Ground on loan until the end of the 2019/20 campaign, providing stern competition to Costel Pantilimon. The Reds are certainly stronger in the goalkeeping department by making this signing.
“Going on loan to Nottingham Forest will give me the opportunity to gain more first-team experience and I’m looking forward to the challenge,” Muric told Manchester City’s official site.
Muric’s performances for the Citizens in the Carabao Cup last season have also seen him rewarded with a new three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium. He’ll be hoping that he can return from the City Ground ready to fight for a place in the first team.
“I really enjoyed the 2018/19 season and to be involved in our successful Carabao Cup run was an amazing experience.”
There’s no doubt that sealing a deal for the 20-year-old goalkeeper is a real coup for the Reds. The Reds have had to fend off a considerable amount of competition to secure his signature.
Forest now have Muric, Pantilimon and Luke Steele as their current goalkeeping options for next season. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the latter leave the club in the coming weeks, as it’s unlikely he’ll feature next season.
The likely battle for a place in the team between Muric and Pantilimon is certainly going to be an intriguing one.
