Could Premier League newcomers Sheffield United raid one of their former Championship rivals? Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn is reportedly a target.
So far this season, Sheffield United have signed Phil Jagielka on a free transfer and Luke Freeman from Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
However, the Blades still need to strengthen their squad further to compete in the top flight. As it stands, they may not have enough quality to stay up in the Premier League.
According to The Sun, Sheffield United are looking to delve back into the Championship market after pulling off a deal for Freeman. Chris Wilder has reportedly bid £3 million for Ben Osborn. However, the Reds want around twice as much for the midfielder who has made over 200 appearances for the club.
Sheffield United may have already smashed their transfer record on bringing Luke Freeman to the club from Queens Park Rangers but The Sun believes that Osborn is next on their radar as the Premier League newcomers aim to bolster their midfield options.
The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Reds since making his breakthrough at the end of the 2013/14 campaign. He has made over 35 appearances in the Championship in the last five seasons. He has been a popular figure since scoring a 92nd-minute winner against Derby County under the management of Stuart Pearce.
But after signing Tiago Silva and Alfa Semedo, Sabri Lamouchi may be tempted to cash-in on the midfielder who is heading into the last year of his contract at the City Ground.
‘Sad’, ‘I’d rather sell Cash’
Personally, I don’t have a problem with the majority of #nffc exits. However, Benny would be a sad loss when you think of who will be left. That said, the new boss will do it his way. And that’s football.

Shouldn’t have got to the point where Osborn only has 12 months left on his contract. Still only 24, over 200 appearances for the club and more than handy in a few positions. Should be on a long term deal with #nffc

Osborn is average but to be fair Chris Wilder could turn Daryl Murphy into prime Drogba #NFFC

Where have these rumours about Osborn come from? Praying there’s some truth in them 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 #nffc

All these forest fans on twitter who don’t rate Osborn must know more than every single manager we’ve had since he made his debut. I, along with all those managers, rate him. I don’t get the hate he gets #nffc

Id rather sell Cash than Osborn, if we sell both and replace with 1 player who is better, then so be it #NFFC
