Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of landing Nottingham Forest target man Daryl Murphy, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The boss of the recently relegated outfit did play down his potential arrival at Portman Road, however.

Recent reports from the Irish Sun suggested that Murphy has been deemed surplus to requirements by new Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi.

The 36-year-old is a fan favourite at Ipswich following a successful spell between 2013 and 2016.

In 225 appearances for the Tractor Boys, he scored 67 goals and registered 32 assists, helping Ipswich to the play-offs in 2014/15.

Lambert must prepare his squad for League One next season following relegation from the Championship.

Murphy doesn’t seem like a primary target, although a move wasn’t completely ruled out.

He told the East Anglian Daily Times: “The lad was a good player but I don’t know because he’s older now.

“Money-wise you never know until wages get put on the table, but people need to get their heads around that we won’t be getting masses.

“That’s not a problem. The club has spent a hell of a lot of money over the years, but we’ve got the young guys coming through the academy. We’re a good side, even though they’re young.

“If we can get one or two in to give them a boost then we will try.”

The Seat Pitch Summary

With Forest now having completed signing number six of the summer, it seems certain that some players will leave the club.

One of those could well be Murphy.

The striker showed a lot of professionalism last season and occasionally did a job when called upon.

He scored important goals against Newcastle United in the EFL cup and in a 4-2 win over Leeds United on New Year’s Day.

With Lewis Grabban now fit and firing, Murphy’s first-team opportunities will dwindle and a departure would be best for all parties this summer.
