Britt Assombalonga left Nottingham Forest for Middlesbrough just under two years ago, when Mark Warburton was in the managerial hot-seat.

Some Nottingham Forest supporters are now urging their side to re-sign the 26-year-old striker amid reports that he may be available for the right price.

According to WalesOnline, Cardiff City, Bristol City and Celtic are all chasing the striker’s signature this summer. The experienced frontman may be available for a discount price as Middlesbrough look to recoup some of the investment they’ve made since being relegated from the Premier League.

Assombalonga left the Reds at a difficult time – in which the Reds had narrowly avoided relegation to League One and were in the midst of a takeover. This was always going to make it more difficult to keep hold of the striker.

For the most part, the Democratic Republic of Congo international was a quality player for the Reds. During his three-year spell at the City Ground, he made a total of 69 appearances, contributing 30 goals. This was enough for him to secure a £15 million move to the Riverside two years ago.

There’s no doubt that Sabri Lamouchi will be on the lookout for a new striker. Karim Ansarifard departed for Al-Sailiya last week, whilst Daryl Murphy has also reportedly been told he can leave. This would leave the Reds with just Lewis Grabban and Tyler Walker.

There was an assumption among the club’s supporters that Ansarifard would’ve played an important role this season. However, the 29-year-old striker was reportedly keen on a new challenge, rather than being forced out of the door.

Even if Ansarifard had stayed, it wouldn’t have been too surprising if Lamouchi was still keen on signing another striker. His departure has only emphasised the need for the Reds to be on the lookout.

‘I’d have him back’, Buy him back!’

Assombalonga still has two years left on his current contract, but Middlesbrough may be keen to cash-in on him for the right price. Due to his record in the Championship, there should be plenty of potential suitors.
