Former Nottingham Forest loan signing Sam Byram won’t be returning to the City Ground for the 2019/20 campaign.
The right-back has penned a four-year contract with Premier League new boys Norwich City, signing for £750,000, according to their official website.
Byram spent last season on loan at the City Ground, playing eight times for the Reds.
He missed seven months of the campaign with a serious knee injury but did return towards the end of the season.
Forest have just Tendayi Darikwa as their senior right-back and some competition is required.
Despite his injury problems, Byram would have proved extremely cheap at the £750,000 that Norwich have paid for his services.
During his eight games for the club he showed promise but the caveat to that is his fitness concerns.
Following news of his Norwich signing, Forest fans have taken to Twitter and the reactions are largely ones of upset.
The vast majority of the supporters would have loved him back on Trentside, although many can see why the Reds have missed out on his signing.
Forest do need some cover at right-back. Darikwa is reliable but if the Reds are serious about promotion, two players for each position is a must.
Here is a selection of tweets from Forest fans, following news of Byram’s new club:
Whoever has signed Sam Byram for £750k, that’s an absolute steal if he keeps fit, great player he is. Hearing it isn’t #nffc though….

Prem money not a massive gamble for them at that price fair play. For #nffc a luxury we can’t afford when he’s not proven to last a season or even half at the minute. Happy with Darikwa myself. Local lad loves the club pace demon ok at defending. Underrated in my opinion

That’s a big IF and he will be second choice as Arrons is class so they wouldn’t want to pay much more for a back up player. Bad career move for Byram in my opinion as he needs games and he won’t play at Norwich.

We haven’t “missed a trick” with Byram – its a simple case of him wanting PL football and/or PL wages. We wouldn’t have been able to compete on anything other than the transfer fee. #NFFC

Shame we couldn’t bring Sam Byram back for a second season, was a really exciting player last season and on many occasions was my man of the match, he stood out in a team of poor performers but what can you do when Norwich come calling, he has a bright future ahead of him.

Fair difference of opinion if Byram would’ve been good signing. But to put a few straight, West Ham reporting his ‘Premier league’ wages were £25k a week – less than Grabban and Pantillimon for a start and god knows what the Portuguese are on. Perspective! #nffc
